Careers in Baltic Sea hospitality 2026: why Glücksburg is worth a job change right now

Schleswig-Holstein is recording its strongest tourism growth in ten years in 2026. Anyone wanting to work in the hotel or catering industry on the Flensburg Fjord will find a dense network of properties in Glücksburg: Intermar Hotel, Ostseelodges, three restaurants – all under the roof of Glück in Sicht Hospitality. What makes the location particularly attractive in 2026.

Tourism boom on the Baltic coast: what it means for the industry

The Schleswig-Holstein Tourism Agency reported a 11.4 percent increase in overnight stays for the first quarter of 2026 compared with the previous year. The Flensburg Fjord benefits in particular: Glücksburg is among the region's top 3 destinations. This has a direct impact on the staffing situation – anyone looking for work in the hotel and catering industry currently finds above-average conditions in Glücksburg.

Why Glücksburg is a good hospitality location

Three reasons we observe from day-to-day operations:

  • Several properties, one employer: Anyone joining Glück in Sicht Hospitality GmbH & Co. KG can choose between – or even move between – Intermar Hotel (4-star, year-round), Ostseelodges (holiday lodges, year-round) and three restaurants. That is rare in a town of 6,000 inhabitants.
  • Quality of life: rents around 30 percent below Hamburg, the beach within walking distance, childcare places usually available – the typical local story for commuters from Hamburg's suburban belt.
  • Seasonal distribution: unlike the North Frisian islands, Glücksburg runs year-round – the winter season is well booked thanks to wellness and the Whitsun long weekends. Seasonal fixed-term contracts are the exception.

Which positions are particularly in demand in Glücksburg in 2026

From our perspective and the data from DEHOGA Schleswig-Holstein:

  1. Restaurant management / restaurant specialist / sommelier: three very different restaurant concepts (bistro, star-level aspirant, beach restaurant) are looking for professionals who want to take on responsibility.
  2. Hotel specialist (front office): an international mix of guests requires English and Danish at least at conversational level.
  3. Chef / cook – including seasonal cuisine: if you like asparagus, game, Baltic fish and North German classics, this is the place for you.
  4. Trainees: for hotel and restaurant management we start every 1 August and 1 September – application deadlines at the end of May.

What the bonus programme at Glück in Sicht looks like

Our internal bonus programme for all employees with a permanent contract has been running since 2025. Points are awarded for length of service, good guest reviews, completing training and anniversaries. Points can be redeemed for overnight stays at the properties (also for family & friends), restaurant vouchers and wellness. We explain the details in the initial interview.

Application process: what counts in 2026

In 2026 we moved away from the classic cover-letter requirement. Apply via our online wizard in five minutes, upload your CV and answer three questions about experience and availability. We sort out the rest in person – usually in a 30-minute interview on site, gladly with a tour of the property.

What to know about getting here
